Device Setup

Before using Shipedge Warehouse Pro, you need to set up your Android device properly. This includes checking system requirements, granting necessary permissions, and configuring initial warehouse settings. Proper device setup ensures the app works correctly and all features are available.

This guide covers everything you need to prepare your device for warehouse operations.

Your Android device must meet these requirements:

  • Minimum Android version: Android 5.0 (API level 21)
  • Target Android version: Android 14 (API level 34)
  • Storage: At least 100 MB free space for the app and data
  • Internet connection: Required for login and data synchronization
  • Hardware: Camera (optional but recommended), Bluetooth (for scanner support)

The app needs several permissions to work properly. You’ll be prompted to grant these when you first use related features:

  • Internet: Required for connecting to Shipedge servers
  • Network State: Checks if you’re connected to the internet
  • WiFi State: Manages WiFi connections
  • Bluetooth: Required for Bluetooth scanner support
  • Bluetooth Admin: Manages Bluetooth connections
  • Vibrate: Provides haptic feedback for actions
  • Camera: For taking photos and scanning barcodes
  • Storage: For saving photos and app data
  • Phone State: For device identification

The app requests permissions when needed. Grant all permissions for the best experience.

When you open the app for the first time, you’ll see a setup window asking for warehouse information.

  1. Open Shipedge Warehouse Pro

Tap the app icon to launch it. The app checks for existing settings.

  2. Enter warehouse name

If this is your first time, you’ll see a dialog asking for warehouse information. Enter your warehouse name in the first field.

  3. Enter warehouse key

Enter your warehouse key in the second field. This key is provided by your administrator.

  4. Complete setup

Tap OK to save your settings. The app verifies your warehouse information with the server.

  5. Wait for verification

You’ll see a progress dialog saying “Verifying warehouse”. Wait for the verification to complete.

  6. Start using the app

Once verified, you can log in and start using the app.

The app creates a folder on your device’s external storage:

  • Location: /shipedge/ folder
  • Purpose: Stores photos taken with the camera
  • Automatic: The folder is created automatically when needed

Make sure your device has external storage available and enough free space.

If you plan to use a Bluetooth scanner:

  1. Enable Bluetooth on your device
  2. Pair your scanner with the device
  3. Configure the scanner in the app (see Bluetooth Scanner Setup)

The app detects if Bluetooth is available and shows the status on the login screen.

The app needs internet access to work:

  • WiFi or Mobile Data: Either connection type works
  • Network Detection: The app checks your connection automatically
  • Server Connection: Connects to https://[warehouse].shipedge.com

Make sure your device is connected to the internet before logging in.

The app collects and uses this device information:

  • Device Serial: Unique identifier for your device (Android ID)
  • App Version: Current version of Shipedge Warehouse Pro (e.g., 25.7.1)
  • System Version: Your device’s Android version
  • Device Model: Your device’s make and model

This information is used for device registration and troubleshooting.

The app creates a local SQLite database on first launch:

  • Database Name: androidShipedge
  • Settings Table: Stores warehouse configuration
  • Automatic Creation: Created automatically when you first open the app

The database stores:

  • Warehouse name and key
  • Active warehouse status
  • External order settings
  • Login date
  • User preferences

You don’t need to manage this database manually - the app handles it automatically.

Keep Android updated

Update your device to the latest Android version your device supports. This ensures compatibility and security.

Grant all permissions

Allow all requested permissions when prompted. The app needs these permissions to function properly.

Check internet connection

Make sure you have a stable internet connection before setting up. The app needs to verify your warehouse with the server.

Free up storage

Keep at least 100 MB free on your device. The app needs space for data and photos.

Problem: The setup window doesn’t appear or you can’t enter information.

Solution:

  • Close and reopen the app
  • Make sure you have internet connection
  • Check that your device meets minimum requirements
  • Clear app data and try again (Settings → Apps → Shipedge Warehouse Pro → Clear Data)

Problem: You see “No connection to internet or error on warehouse name” after entering warehouse information.

Solution:

  • Check your internet connection
  • Verify the warehouse name is correct (case-sensitive)
  • Verify the warehouse key is correct
  • Contact your administrator to confirm your warehouse is active
  • Try again after a few minutes

Problem: Features don’t work because permissions were denied.

Solution:

  • Go to Settings → Apps → Shipedge Warehouse Pro → Permissions
  • Enable all required permissions
  • Restart the app
  • Try the feature again

Problem: You see errors about storage or cannot save photos.

Solution:

  • Free up space on your device
  • Check that external storage is available
  • Go to Settings → Storage to see available space
  • Remove unnecessary files or apps

Problem: Bluetooth features don’t work.

Solution:

  • Enable Bluetooth in device Settings
  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on
  • Check that your device supports Bluetooth
  • See Bluetooth Scanner Setup for detailed help

  1. Go to device Settings → Apps → Shipedge Warehouse Pro
  2. Tap Clear Data (this removes all app data including warehouse settings)
  3. Reopen the app
  4. Enter your new warehouse name and key
